Camping in American Fork Canyon

American Fork Canyon is home to some of our favorite places to climb. This weekend we though we would explore some of the other treasures it has to offer: Camping, Hiking, Fishing, and even a little Off-roading.

We found a really great campsite, and John and Oliver got busy setting up right away. We set up our tent just in time to duck inside for shelter from the late morning thunderstorm.

After the storm passed, we decided to try out some rocky dirt roads in our car. Very fun.

Later we revisited a hike to Silver Lake, from Silver Lake flats.

It was a good thing we brought some hot dogs, because we didn't catch any fish. It was a beautiful lake, and we had fun on our private beach, taking turns casting out. Oliver leapt into the water right away.

After our hike and fishing, we came back to camp to start a fire and get dinner started.

Once again, Oliver continued to attack the flames. Even after scorching a few whiskers.

After dinner, we had a "friendly" game of Scrabble in the tent. The dog fell into a deep sleep immediately. On the lower half of my ThermaRest.

We need to escape more frequently together. Away from computers and cell phone reception. Away from our separate hobbies, and daily obligations. Away from stress. Just together time.
